The Little Tramp larger than life…
Work on the wall frescoes reproducing some larger-than-life pictures of Charlie Chaplin has started on one of the Gilamont towers in Vevey.
Soon the Gilamont towers will no longer be identical … The Lyon-based company CitéCréation, which has created 490 wall frescoes in Lyon, Moscow, Mexico and Shanghaï, has the arduous task of reproducing, within eight weeks, the life-size drawings by Vevey artist Franck Bouroullec on the facade of the 42-metre high white tower.
The brilliant man with the spanner will be represented on the cogwheel of the infernal giant machine in Modern Times, a veiled reference to Vevey's industrial past and its mechanical workshops. The windows of the 14 floors will feature a frieze showing the famous film pictures of the two dancing bread rolls in Gold Rush.
The public is invited to admire the work in progress: every weekday, including Saturday. The second tower, whose colour is dark grey, will be covered with another wall fresco in 2011 and the project disclosed at the end of September.
