Bread and Wheat Museum
The Bread and Wheat Museum is the only establishment in Switzerland which focuses on agriculture, milling and baking and which exhibits the fabulous story of wheat and bread.
This village farm of 1790 shows a collection of objects connected with wheat cultivation and bread production over the 800 years of its history.
Visitors discover the craft of baking live at Ceres's oven and can make their own, typically Swiss plaited bread which will then be baked in one of the ovens, one of which dates of 1887.
The Bread and Wheat Museum also has a multi-purpose hall which can receive up to 70 people, as well as a tearoom where freshly made bread can be tasted.
The Cantonal Local Costumes Association exhibits a beautiful collection of traditional clothes worn locally.
Every ten years, Echallens organises a splendid open-air event: the Bread and Wheat Festival. 1,500 amateur actors and singers, aided by professionals, performed at the 2008 edition. The Museum on Place de l’Hôtel de Ville could be acquired with the profits of the festival that took place in 1978.
“Ti’Grain’s Way”
“Ti'Grain” (Little wheat grain) shares its captivating adventures from the day it is planted in the soil and its germination until the moment it appears on our plate in the form of a slice of bread and butter... This new circuit comprising 20 stages and a unique audiovisual presentation will enchant and amuse young visitors, who come with their family or with their school.
