Oron

The medieval castle and village of Oron are at the heart of hiking and biking itineraries: from Switzerland's largest menhir to the Rogivue peat bog. And Servion Zoo is much more than an animal park.

Château d'Oron

Thanks to an association of fans, the medieval castle in Oron is open to visitors and can be hired for parties and weddings.

The region around Oron counts 200 km marked paths for hiking and biking.

The Mosses de la Rogivue nature reserve is a marshland of national importance and a reserve for mammals, birds, batrachians, reptiles and insects.

Near Essertes stands Switzerland's largest menhir measuring 5.6 m and weighing 25 tons. In 1991 the « stone with a donkey’s back » revealed its origins dating back 4,500 years.

The Servion Zoo contains Nordic fauna, big cats, primates and lemurs and is committed to preserving endangered species.

The Tropiquarium presents a large variety of birds and reptiles in huge tropical hothouses, parks and aviaries. Much more than simple animal parks, the zoo and the Tropiquarium offer facilities that are easily accessible for children and the handicapped.
